Privacy policy
Privacy policy for SelfHost BR: no cookies and no stored IP address. What anonymous statistics we collect, why, your GDPR rights and how to contact me.
In short: the site does not use cookies, does not store your IP address and does not create any identifier for you. It only counts page usage anonymously, so I can see which guides help and what to improve.
Who is responsible
This site is run by Marlon. For any privacy question, write to [email protected].
What is collected
- Visit statistics: pages viewed, the site you came from (for example Google or Bing), your country and the type of device (phone or computer), plus the campaign tag (
utm_source) when the link you followed has one. - Page usage: how much of the page was read and how long it stayed open on screen, clicks on links to other sites (such as provider pages), copied commands and pages not found.
- Calculator: the calculation runs in your browser. I only record that it was used and the size it suggested (for example “4 GB · 1 vCPU”), never the numbers you typed.
- Email: if you email me, I use your address only to reply.
None of this identifies you. Visits from the same person are not linked together, and the data is not sold or shared. It is stored with Cloudflare, which hosts the site. The site also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies or other storage in your browser and does not follow you across sites. As with any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the pages to you; the site's own statistics do not store it. I do not set a fixed deletion date for the anonymous statistics, because they contain no identifiers.
Why, and on what legal basis
The statistics exist to understand which guides are useful and to improve them. Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR, the legal basis is legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)): the data is anonymous, minimal and limited to that purpose. Email you send me is handled on the same basis, so I can answer you.
How to opt out of being counted
If your browser sends the "Global Privacy Control" or "Do Not Track" signal, the page-usage statistics are not sent. Content blockers also work normally here, and the site looks the same.
Affiliate links
When you click an affiliate link, the destination provider may set cookies to record the referral, under its own privacy policy.
Ads
If I start showing ads (for example Google AdSense), third parties may use cookies to serve them. This page will be updated before that happens, with the consent options required.
Your rights (GDPR and UK GDPR)
You can ask for access to, correction of or deletion of the personal data I hold about you, ask me to restrict its use, and object to its processing. Write to [email protected]. The anonymous statistics cannot be tied to one person, so in practice these rights apply to the emails you send me. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
